As part of CAN’s expansion campaign, Steve Gliessman, co-founder of CAN and Board chair, will address Cal Poly students and faculty on Monday, April 23. His talk will highlight how Cal Poly students and faculty can participate in CAN’s programs.
This event is being co-sponsored by Community Agroecology Network, the CAFES Center for Sustainability and the Cal Poly Fair Trade Club. It is free and open to the public. All are invited to attend.

On Friday, February 17, during El Intercambio 2012, the coffee supply chain became a circle when Yadira Montenegro, from San Ramón, Nicaragua, and Clara Palma, from Veracruz, México, engaged with workers at the Green Mountain Coffee Roasting (GMCR) plant in Castroville, California.

Over President’s Day weekend, February 17–20, 2012, the Real Food Challenge held its National Summit, Breaking Ground 2012. On Saturday morning, February 18, Yadira Montenegro from the Union of Cooperatives San Ramón, Nicaragua participated in a panel discussion. Ms. Montenegro was in Santa Cruz as part of CAN’s El Intercambio 2012.

Feb. 13-22 representatives from CAN partner communities in Latin America will be at the University of California, Santa Cruz, for 10 days of trainings, events, and activities. This is a wonderful and rare opportunity for students and members of the public to get to know and meet some of the people involved in CAN's work. The events at El Intercambio will offer plenty of food for thought and ample information about CAN's Field Study and Field Course programs.

Network partners from Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Huatusco, Chiapas, (México) and San Ramón (Nicaragua) traveled to Santa Cruz, California, for a week of workshops, events, and network strengthening. The visiting internship coordinators engaged with UCSC students during campus events, classroom presentations, and at the weekly Friends of CAN (FoCAN) meetings.
