CAN Named a Top-Rated Green Nonprofit!

We've just learned that thanks to the dedication of our supporters, CAN has been named to a new list of Top-Rated green nonprofits by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews for nonprofit organizations. The Top-Rated Green 2012 Nonprofit list is composed of organizations that have received at least 10 positive reviews from stakeholders, such as volunteers, donors, or clients. The reviews were posted as part of the 2012 Green Awards campaign conducted by GreatNonprofits.

CAN Nicaragua Scholarship Program sends rural community organizers to school!

Ten rural community organizers, ranging in age from 19-43 years old, received scholarships through CAN’s Nicaragua Scholarship Fund to continue their education. Scholarships supported them in paying for school fees, materials, transportation, and lunches during the 2011 school year. The fund helped two students attend secondary school, and eight students attend technical school or university.

Dan Hermstad Joins CAN Staff as Action Education Director

CAN is pleased to announce that Dan Hermstad will be joining our staff in Santa Cruz, California, on July 1 in the new position of Action Educator Director. Dan brings a strong background in agroecology, education, intercultural relations and business to CAN.  He has a masters degree in Geography from San Francisco State University, where he taught and worked in outdoor education.  For the past two years Dan has been production coordinator for Del Cabo Farms where he is the link between the sales team in the U.S. and the farmers and production managers in Baja.
