CAN's Profit Sharing Model

The UCA San Ramón has been selling organic Fair Trade coffee to CAN for more than three years. CAN shares the profit equally with the cooperative.

• This has resulted in final prices that range from $2 to $2.50/lb. (Compared with $1.41 - $1.65 Fair Trade prices.)
  
• When CAN purchases the unroasted (green beans), CAN makes a first payment of the official organic Fair Trade price to the cooperative.
•  Once the coffee is sold, CAN pays a second payment of the difference based on earnings. The UCA distributes a portion of the profit-sharing payments directly to farmers, while the other portion has been invested in sustainable agriculture programs.
