Maya Intercultural University of Quintana Roo (UIMQRoo)
In 2001 the country of Mexico, through a constitutional amendment officially embraced the diverse ethnic indentity of its population, thus taking an import step in reversing decades of policies that sought the homogeneity of its society. In that same year, Mexico began to lay the foundations for the development of a new higher education model that would attend not only to the needs of its indigenous population, but also an emphasis on exploring the creation of knowledge across cultures in search of innovative solutions to the pressing issues on a local, regional and world level.
The Maya Intercultural University of Quintan Roo accounts for specific facilities that house nearly 400 enrolled students. Besides the language labs (CIAL), there is a computer room with internet access, and a wet and dry laboratory; and a temporary library.
