The Tacuba Community
Tacuba is a small town in the coffee-covered mountains of western El Salvador. Tacuba has some of the highest poverty rates in the country, but receives less attention from international aid agencies than other parts of the country, as western El Salvador was not as affected by the civil war as municipalities in the east and north.

The three small-scale coffee grower's cooperatives outside of Tacuba provide an ecologically important buffer to El Parque Nacional El Imposible. The park area and the surrounding shade coffee farms are among El Salvador's most biodiverse. Each cooperative maintains a dense shade canopy, all are in transition to organic, and all three have been working for the past five years with ASINDEC.
