Funding Goal: $5,000 to support training programs and community organizer involvement in community outreach

We are working in three counties in the mountainous coffee region of Veracruz to reduce migration, malnutrition and poverty by training youth in development of agroecological production in home gardens, creation of local farmers markets, and opportunities for self-employment.

The project is based in three counties in the Las Altas Montañas region in central Veracruz State in Mexico. Currently we are working with 80 households and seven promoters in 14 communities. The first stage of the project includes building a vegetable garden network among these families with training in composting, biointensive garden preparation, transplanting, biological control of diseases, and construction of three agroforestry nurseries intended to enhance food production and crop diversification within the coffee groves.

Organization: Liaison for Agroecological Development in Coffee Farming Areas (VIDA: Vinculación y Desarrollo Agroecológica en Zonas Cafetaleras) is an NGO that contributes to social change, healthy living and autonomy in communities in coffee regions by developing social awareness, citizenship building, agroecological practices, and food sovereignty, supporting families and communities in these efforts while respecting their local social, cultural and organizational values.
