|2009 Annual Report||
This was an important year for CAN. During our fifth year as a certified 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, we experienced the foundational growth that will strengthen the organization as we continue to develop our programs to meet out mission. We have seen growth in staff positions, community participation, university student involvement, research collaboration, and outreach.
We added a sixth community to our network with the affiliation of the partner organization, Universidad Intercultural Maya de Quintana Roo led by PAR liaison Dr. Francisco Rosado May, president of the University. He is working with Mayan communities in the state of Quintana Roo on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico engaging Mayan students in sustainable community development. We also established internship coordinators in five of the CAN communities and held our first intern coordinator meeting and training this year in Santa Cruz, California.
